How are Geotextiles used
Do you know in which all places geotextile is used? If not, then you don’t have to worry as by reading this blog, you can find all the applications where you can use the geotextile. If you want to buy geotextile for your business, then you should reach out to Rajdhani Syntex, the eminent geobag manufacturer in India.
Difference
between Woven and non-Woven Geotextile
Do you
know what the difference between woven and non-woven geotextile/ If no, then it
is not hard to find is? Woven geotextile is constructed from the interlaced
yarn, polypropylene and other fibers; however, non-woven geotextile is made of
needled punched synthetic fibers. One can say that the woven geotextile is
semi-impermeable, that is it has a lower flow-through rate. The non-woven
geotextile is permeable and has a higher drain through flow rate. The woven
geotextile has high tensile strength and load capacity, which are commonly used
in road construction. The woven fabric is excellent for the stabilization and
reinforcement application, whereas the non-woven geotextile is excellent for
the drainage, filtration and separation application.
Applications of Geotextiles
Geotextile fabrics are used everywhere in the new construction. It
can be found in the construction of the railways, roads, drains, harbor works,
breakwaters, and also on the hillside erosion control applications. The most
common applications of the geotextiles are separation, stabilization,
reinforcement, filtration, moisture barrier and drainage.
●
Separation
Geotextile fabric is placed between two layers of different
materials, be it two different soil types or new construction, and the soil, or
new and the old pavement. Separation application is used interchangeably with
the stabilization, but there is some difference.
●
Stabilization
In the stabilization application, the geotextile fabric is applied
to the top of a material which is highly compressible, and mostly this material
is wet and soft soil. The geotextile fabric allows the water to seep from the
soft soil into the draining material. It consolidates as the basement layer and
thereby strengthening it and making a more trustworthy base.
●
Reinforcement
In the reinforcement
application, the geotextile is known for acting as the source of strength
rather than strengthening the bottom layer. You can use geotextile as the
reinforcement material in the following areas:
o
Steep slopes - By allowing the building of steeper slopes and to
save the required land surface and for sealing the material.
o
Retaining walls - The retaining walls, along with geotextile
materials, can accommodate settlements much more effective than the traditional
construction materials.
o
It can control water erosion in the bay shores and sea
embankments.
o
It is even used in the land reclamation by using hydraulic
fill
●
Filtration
Using the geotextile
infiltration technique is similar, just like using the stabilization. The aim
in both of these cases is to permit the passage of the water from the covered
layer. The goal of filtration application is to remove the water while
preventing the soil as well as other fine particles from passing through. In
the filtration process, water is removed and not filtered into any
different material.
●
Moisture Barrier
This application is the
direct opposite of the filtration applications. In the moisture barrier
application, the geotextile is used for blocking the water rather than allowing
the water to pass through. This can be achieved by applying an asphaltic
suspension, and as a result of it, the fabric will become impermeable. It will
be suitable for use in construction projects like pavement
rehabilitation.
●
Drainage
Geotextile
material can be helpful to gather water or gas and then to transport it along
with its plane. Therefore it provides seamless transmission. This process is
traditionally called the drainage function that is highly effective in the
chimney drains and in the drip drains.
